PALOMA LOPEZ
Paloma Maria Lopez is a Mexican American Singer/Songwriter, Actor, Writer, and Dancer based in New York City. She is a summa cum laude graduate of The New School with a Dual Degree; a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance at The School of Jazz & Contemporary Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Literary Studies at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts with a Minor in Fashion Communications at Parsons School of Design. She was awarded the Dean's Academic Scholarship.
Growing up on the West Coast, Paloma joined The Colburn School Tap Ensemble at 13 years old. She studied, choreographed, and performed tap dance pieces with the company through the age of 18. She graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) in Theatre, Opera, and Musical Theatre and performed, The Promise of Living, by Aaron Copland at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angeles. She placed First at the Drama Teachers Association of Southern California in the Musical Theatre Category and was awarded Outstanding Performance in Music Voice. Some of her favorite roles she’s portrayed include; Cunegonde from Candide, Zita from Gianni Schicchi, Prince Orlofsky from Die Fledermaus, and Maggie from A Chorus Line. Paloma is inspired by actors such as Meryl Streep and Kristin Chenoweth. She holds a life membership award from the California Scholarship Federation Honor Society for outstanding high school students as well as a Bi-Literacy award in English and Spanish. Paloma was honored with an award from the City of Los Angeles for her demonstration of academic excellence and dedication to community service.
During her studies at The New School, she performed in the Laurel Canyon Ensemble directed by Dirk Freymuth, the Vocal Blues Ensemble directed by Daniel Mixon, the Gospel Chorus directed by Charlotte Small, and the Women in Music Ensemble directed by Mary Halvorson and Patricia Brennan. Paloma also studied and was a Teacher’s Assistant for Acting Shakespeare under the instruction of Cecilia Rubino. She was a staff editor and writer for the #1 National Online College Women’s Magazine, Her Campus, and was published in the literary magazine, Eleven and a Half.
Paloma has been mentored by Andres Ramirez, Stephanie Vlahos, Paige Ackerson-Kiely, and Charlotte Small.
She is a graduate student at Sarah Lawrence College majoring in Creative Writing with a concentration in Auto-Fiction and Poetry, working as a Non-Fiction Editor for the literary journal, Lumina. Some writers she admires are Leo Tolstoy, Emily Dickinson, and Sharon Olds. Paloma is writing her MFA thesis titled, Son of Lope, an Auto-Fiction novel based on her childhood and adult life.
Since Paloma was a young child her ultimate passion has always been music. Her debut show was on January 4th at Heaven Can Wait in New York City, where she played her original music. Paloma brings 70’s rock, country, Mexican-folk, and blues to her songwriting drawing inspiration from artists such as Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Etta James, and Elvis Presley. Her band consists of Ana Cristina on bass, Ryan Rieg on lead guitar, and herself on rhythm guitar and vox. Paloma is currently recording her EP, American Beauty.
