Paloma Maria Lopez is a Mexican American Actor, Singer, Writer, and Dancer based in New York City.  She is a summa cum laude graduate of The New School with a Dual Degree; a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance at The School of Jazz & Contemporary Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Literary Studies at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts with a Minor in Fashion Communications at Parsons School of Design. She was awarded the Dean's Academic Scholarship. 

 

Growing up on the West Coast, Paloma graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) in Theatre, Opera, and Musical Theatre and performed, "The Promise of Living" (Aaron Copland) at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angeles. She placed First at the Drama Teachers Association of Southern California in the Musical Theatre Category and was awarded Outstanding Performance in Music Voice. She holds a life membership award from the California Scholarship Federation Honor Society for outstanding high school students as well as a Bi-Literacy award in English and Spanish. Paloma was honored with an award from the City of Los Angeles for her demonstration of academic excellence and dedication to community service. 

 

At 13 years of age, Paloma was a member of The Colburn School Tap Ensemble. She studied, choreographed, and performed tap dance pieces with the company through the age of 18.

 

Some of her favorite roles she portrayed include; Cunegonde (Candide), Zita (Gianni Schicchi), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), and Maggie (A Chorus Line). 

 

During her studies at The School of Jazz, she performed in the Laurel Canyon Ensemble directed by Dirk Freymuth, Vocal Blues Ensemble directed by Daniel Mixon, Gospel Chorus directed by Charlotte Small, and the Women in Music Ensemble directed by Mary Halvorson and Patricia Brennan. Paloma brings folk, country, and 70’s rock to her music and songwriting.

 

For the past two years, she has been a staff writer/editor for the #1 online national college women's magazine, Her Campus, and one of her short fiction works,’ Boo! was published in the literary journal, Eleven and a Half ‘22. She recently completed and presented a reading at Eugene Lang College, of her Writing Capstone– A Journey Through Memory, Loss, & Love, which centers around six short fictional stories.

 

Paloma has been mentored by Charlotte Small, Inessa Medzhibovskaya, Cecilia Rubino, Julia Poteat, Stephanie Vlahos, Andres Ramirez, Justine Hartley, and Jeremy Guskin.

 

She draws inspiration from artists such as Meryl Streep, Robert DeNiro, Miley Cyrus, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, Leo Tolstoy, Emily Dickinson, and Gregory Hines.

 

She will begin her Graduate Studies this fall of '2023 at Sarah Lawrence College where she has been awarded the Dean's Scholarship for Academic Excellence in the Master of Fine Arts Writing program.
